Cafe Omi: Music on the Patio


Sunday, July 2, noon - 2 PM
Cafe Omi 

 

Art Omi kicks off summer music on the patio this Sunday with The Walk-ins from noon-2!

The Walk-Ins, Matt Bowe and Michael Carr are a guitar and mandolin fret and string ensemble playing handpicked blues, jazz, and fiddle tunes.


The Cafe Omi menu is prepared by Chef Rita Soares-Kern with organic and local ingredients from Ten Barn Farm and Berry Farm, featuring mimosas with a sprig of fresh lavendar.


Café serves from 11am – 4pm
Music from 12pm – 2pm

 


Camp Omi + Artgarten

Six 1-week sessions from June 26 - August 4
Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 3 PM
$350/week or $325/week for 2 or more weeks
Ages 4-13 

 

Join us this year for Columbia County's most popular day camp for young artists! Camp Omi is a unique, arts-based day program where kids explore contemporary art and ideas through a variety of media and experiences for ages 6-13 (must be 6 at time of camp). 

In addition, we are pleased to present a new summer experience for our youngest artists! Camp Omi: Artgarten serves our 4 and 5 year-olds (must be 4 at the start of camp) in a specially-crafted environment that allows for exploration, play, and making in a small group setting.

Saturday Children's Workshops

July 1 - August 19, 2017
Saturdays from 10 AM - 12 PM

$12 per child or $20 for two
Drop off/Pick up at the Benenson Visitors Center

Join us on Saturday mornings for this popular workshop for young artists ages 4 1/2 - 12! Based on a weekly theme and inspired by artworks in The Fields, Architecture Omi, and the Visitors Center Gallery, each workshop includes an outdoor adventure and a hands-on artmaking activity. Led by teaching artists, children are divided into two groups by age and participate in developmentally appropriate projects that encourage curiosity, experimentation, and creative thinking through a variety of materials and experiences.

Open Studio Weekend: Dancing Under the Stars

Enjoy drinks, hors d'oeuvres and live, energetic music by Nkumu Katalay overlooking the firefly-lit sculpture park at Omi, in the company of our artists-in-residence and upstate arts community. Celebrate the culmination of this year's' artists residency and Open Studios the following day!

Open Studio Weekend: Country Brunch

Omi honors our international artists-in-residence and celebrates with a country brunch on the lawn of Ledig House. Join us for mimosas, French toast, and fresh fruit to fuel up for a day of art-seeking before you head down to the Studio Barns!

Open Studio Weekend: Open Studios

The Studio Barns (intersection of CR22 and Letter S Road, Ghent, NY)

Where else in Columbia County can you see the work of 30 international artists in one place? After our relaxing Country Brunch, take a short stroll down to the studio barns, and see what the artists have been working on for the past 4 weeks, along with additional events and installations to be announced!

With a diverse group of dancers from all over the world, the Dance Omi Salon is a forum for the residents to share their individual work with the public before exhibiting their collaborative projects later in the month. It is an intimate evening of live performance set in the studio spaces, and gives context to individual artist's work at the start of the residency program. The event is free and open to the public, with no RSVP required.

Arts Labs for Teens
STORY: Writer's Intensive

 

July 31 - August 4 (M-F, 10AM-3PM)
Ages 13+
$350

 

Whether you want to write a novel, compose a collection of poems, pen your college application essay, create a monologue for stage, ink a journalistic travelogue, or craft a nonfiction narrative based on an ancient civilization, this weeklong summer intensive takes your work to the deepest level. Each writer has the opportunity to focus on a single piece of writing—developing process, refining craft, and polishing work. Days are filled with individualized writing instruction, one-on-one editing, structured free writing time, and outdoor summer activities including daily pool time.

Dance: Showing

Saturday, August 5 at 2 PM
The Fields Sculpture Park

Omi's Dance Residents show works created in collaboration with each other during their stay at Omi. The residency emphasizes process over product, so the artists will present the fruits of their exchange in the form of unique pieces. Each year's iteration varies, but almost always involve site-specific performance events leading hundreds of visitors throughout Omi's beautiful campus.

Arts Labs for Teens

Playwriter's Dreamshop


August 7-11 (M-F, 9AM-3PM)
Ages 10+
Cost: $350
Instructor: Emilia Teasdale and Tarcisio Ramos dos Santos

 

The sky is the limit in this outdoor collaborative playwriting workshop. Let your imagination run wild as we dream up, write, rehearse, and perform an original play. Together, we explore the elements of playwriting and write a script. We will also engage in aspects of theatrical production including acting, costume and set design, staging, and sound. Our efforts culminate in a final performance, set against the landscape of The Fields Sculpture Park at Art Omi, for friends and family on the final day of the program.

Music: Geurilla Improv at Basilica Hudson

Residents will perform "guerilla" collaborations in groupings randomly selected by the audience. The improvisational evening offers the public an opportunity to experience the diverse backgrounds of the residents early in their residency and participate in the process of creative exploration, live.

Kristiania Reading in the Fields

Members of Kristiania will offer public readings and performances at various locations throughout the Fields Sculpture Park. The public is invited to join our community as we celebrate the role Omi has played in our artistic growth. A reception celebrating Kristiania's first publication, a limited edition, handmade anthology of work by its members on the theme of Wealth, will follow in the Benenson Visitors Center.

Art Omi: Writers Reading + BBQ

A distinguished group of international writers and translators currently in residence at Art Omi: Writers will read from their works. Following the event, Art Omi invites visitors to gather for a barbeque feast and reception with the writers, for which donations are appreciated.

Ultra Pro: Sculptures That Cook

The Fields Sculpture Park


Join us for our second-annual Ultra Pro: Sculptures that Cook, a BBQ event free and open to the public!

Organized by Art Omi 2002 Artist Residency alum Michael Tong. Michael has invited 15-20 artists to create working grills, smokers and ovens for an afternoon barbecue event. Local farms are contributing delicious grillable foods and locally produced condiments. Select local chefs are invited to collaborate with artists on recipes and participate in judging.

Trick or Treat in The Fields

Join us at Omi for a free afternoon of Halloween fun! We'll provide art-making, hayrides, and a candy hunt amongst the sculptures. Come in your favorite costume, craft your own treat bag, and enjoy cider, popcorn and fresh apples in the park.

Café Omi, located in the Visitors Center at The Fields Sculpture Park, serves seasonal lunch specials, soups, salads and sweets. Our menu rotates weekly and is carefully craſted by our talented local chefs. Café Omi is proud to offer the freshest seasonal ingredients and produce sourced from local farms and purveyors in Columbia County.
